Dade County MOVANS Coverage
Missouri calls its VINE service the Missouri Victim Automated Notification System, or MOVANS. The service covers custody information from participating local jails and detention centers, MODOC custody or supervision notices, and certain court events. These are distinct registrations. A custody registration does not automatically create court-event notices, and a court registration does not replace a custody alert.
The custody agency is vital in Dade County. Dade County Sheriff Ryan Robison's office may arrest, book, or transport a person, while the Cedar County Law Enforcement Center may hold that person in a contract bed. A Dade name search should therefore be checked for Cedar County as the reporting custodian. If a person later enters a Missouri Department of Corrections institution, the MODOC route becomes the relevant source. Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE custody are not covered by a local MOVANS jail result.

Search a Dade County Inmate
Use the Missouri portal for a specific-person check. An offender or booking identifier gives the cleanest match when one is known. A full or partial name can work, but common names and aliases call for a second identifier. Never assume that the first result belongs to the person sought. Read the agency, status, and any identifying details that the public screen supplies.
- Open the Missouri MOVANS portal and choose the custody or offender search, not the court-only registration path.
- Enter the offender ID when available. Otherwise search the legal name and try a careful partial-name variation if needed.
- Open the most plausible result and compare the named agency, age or date information, and identifier before relying on it.
- Read the current custody detail and note the reporting agency. Check Cedar County when a Dade detainee was housed there.
- Record the event time if shown, then ask that custodian for the release type and receiving agency when the status changed.
A blank search is not proof that someone is free. Spelling, an alias, a recent transfer, agency participation, or an update delay can affect the result. Note: Search by agency as well as name because the county of the case and the county holding the person may differ.
Dade County Release Result Fields
A MOVANS record describes the event sent by the reporting system. It is not the jail's certified release log. Field names may vary by agency and portal screen, but the useful parts answer who was matched, which custodian reported the event, and what status or change was posted. A scheduled state date should not be read as an actual county-jail release.

A “released” or custody-change result means that the reporting custodian ended or changed its custody event. The person may have returned to the community, bonded out, entered MODOC, moved to another county, or been transferred to a federal or immigration custodian. Ask for the release type, release authority, and destination. Those fields distinguish community release from transfer.
Register Dade County Release Alerts
Registration should start from the correct specific-person result. Select each channel that is useful and keep its confirmation details. Missouri materials allow multiple phone numbers and email addresses. Contact data must be updated when it changes, since a valid registration cannot help if calls or messages go to an old account.
- Select the matched person and choose the option to receive notifications.
- Create or sign in to the account required by the current portal.
- Choose the available phone, email, text, or app channels and complete each confirmation shown.
- Create and save the four-digit PIN for automated phone calls.
- Enter that PIN when a call arrives to acknowledge the event and stop repeat calls for it.
- Make a separate court registration if case-event notices are also wanted.
Automated calls may continue for at least a day until the PIN confirms receipt. They may arrive at night and can leave a message. Registration information is not disclosed to the offender through the notification service. MOVANS remains a safety and status tool, not a substitute for emergency services or direct contact with law enforcement.
Missouri's 2026 MOVANS Reset
Missouri changed local-jail registration on May 6, 2026. Every user seeking local jail or detention notifications had to create a new registration through the current Missouri portal. An older VINELink registration should not be assumed active. MODOC and court-event preferences also need confirmation through their responsible routes, since the three support paths remain separate.

The captured notice is especially useful when an old account stops producing Dade County custody alerts, because it points users back to the current state route rather than a stale national instruction.

Confirm a Dade County Release
Start with the agency named in the result. For a Dade arrest, call the Dade County Sheriff's Office at 417-238-2400 and ask who holds the release or transfer record. The directory lists 300 W. Water Street, Greenfield, Missouri 65661. If Cedar held the person, request the admission and release movement from the Cedar County Law Enforcement Center at 113 South Street, Stockton.
A Missouri prison event needs a different check. MODOC Offender Search covers active offenders, including many people on parole or conditional release, but it expressly excludes discharged offenders. Historical release or discharge proof may require the MODOC Sunshine data or a request to OD.SunshineRequest@doc.mo.gov. The Dade County court docket may explain the judgment, bond action, dismissal, or commitment authority, although it may not record the physical door time.
MOVANS can lag or be corrected, does not cover federal BOP custody, and cannot prove community freedom after a transfer. Verify with the reporting custodian.
Use 28th Judicial Circuit Case.net records for the legal event, the jail movement record for physical release, and the MODOC record for state custody. A single result rarely answers all three questions.
Federal and immigration cases require separate checks. The BOP Inmate Locator may show “Released” and a date for many federal records from 1982 forward, but it does not identify state supervision or a later custody event. ICE's locator applies only when an immigration transfer actually occurred. No official source reviewed for Dade County established a local ICE detention contract, so an immigration search should follow a documented detainer or transfer rather than guesswork.
Identity should also be verified before acting on an alert. Compare the person’s identifier and reporting agency, then preserve the exact status wording. If a correction appears later, keep both timestamps and ask the custodian which event controls. A delayed text does not change the underlying jail database time, and a court disposition does not always equal the moment of physical release.
Dade County Notification Boundaries
MOVANS custody, court, and corrections notices answer related but separate questions. A local custody alert reports what a participating jail sent about one event. A court alert can report a public case event without proving that jail staff completed release processing. A MODOC notice concerns the state corrections record. Registering in all applicable channels can close gaps, but the notices should not be merged into one timeline unless the identifiers and agencies match.
The Missouri sex-offender registry is another separate system. It applies only when a person has a current statutory registration duty. A registry address can reflect community registration, but it does not give the release time and is not a list of all Dade County released inmates. RSMo 589.417 also distinguishes public registry fields from complete statements, photographs, and fingerprints that are not generally public under Chapter 610. Use the official registry only for its defined purpose.
When a result seems inconsistent, build a short event ledger. Write down the reporting agency, exact status phrase, identifier, update time, and notice channel. Then compare the Dade court docket, Dade or Cedar jail movement, and any MODOC status. This method exposes a common sequence: Dade arrest, Cedar detention, Dade court action, Cedar release to MODOC, then active state custody. Calling each step simply “released” would hide the transfer.
A records request can settle the unresolved field. Ask for the existing release-event or custody-movement record, not a custom report. Include the legal name, another identifier, Dade case number, and a narrow date range. Request the release time, type, authority, and receiving agency if maintained. If part is closed, ask for the open part and the legal basis for withholding the rest.
