Locate ICE Custody Transfers

To find someone released to Immigration and Customs Enforcement after Dade County custody, treat the event as a possible transfer rather than an ordinary community release. The local jail record should identify the agency or destination that received the person, while the federal civil immigration locator can show qualifying ICE detention. This route applies only when an immigration detainer or actual ICE transfer occurred. A Dade or Cedar jail release by itself does not establish immigration custody, and the absence of a locator result does not settle the person's status.

ICE Release Route Is Conditional

ICE operates a federal civil immigration detention system. It is not a county jail, a Missouri prison system, or a criminal-history search. No official source found for this project establishes a Dade County or Cedar County ICE detention contract. The ICE route must therefore be presented only when a detainer, transfer entry, court record, or responsible agency confirms an immigration-custody connection.

A person can leave the Cedar County Detention Center on an entry such as “released to ICE.” That wording means Cedar ended its custody because another agency received the person. It does not show release to the community. Ask Cedar for the movement time, release type, receiving agency, and destination if maintained. Dade may hold the originating arrest and transport record, while ICE controls the next custody event.

Important: Release to ICE is successor custody, not proof that the person walked free from the county jail.

Use the ICE Detainee Locator

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System, or ODLS, offers two conditional search modes. One uses an A-number with country of birth. The other uses biographical details. Exact spelling and matching details matter, and the portal does not function as a general search of county arrests or past criminal cases.

Follow a restrained verification path:

  1. Obtain the county jail release or movement record and confirm that ICE, immigration authorities, or a named receiving agency is actually listed.
  2. Search by A-number and country of birth when the A-number is known. This is the more precise identifier route.
  3. Otherwise use the biographical search with the full name, country of birth, and other required details exactly as recorded.
  4. Compare the result with the county transfer time and identifying information. Do not join records on a similar name alone.
  5. If the transfer was recent or the search fails, contact the relevant ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations office rather than guessing that release occurred.

An ODLS result can support current immigration detention. It does not explain the prior Dade case, the Cedar jail event, or a MODOC sentence. Those records remain with the agencies that created them. The locator should be used only after the custody chain points to ICE.

Note: A recent transfer may not appear at once, so keep the local movement record and ask ICE about the appropriate ERO contact.

Read an ICE Custody Result

Immigration locator results require care because a no-match has several possible causes. The transfer may be too recent, the name or birth data may differ, the A-number may be incomplete, the case may be protected, or the person may no longer be detained. The portal's silence does not identify which reason applies. It cannot be turned into a claim of community release.

Result or eventWhat it supportsWhat it does not prove
County record says released to ICELocal custody ended in a transfer to the named agencyCommunity freedom or current ICE location
ODLS identifies a detaineeICE detention information for the matched personDade arrest facts or county release authority
No ODLS resultNo match from the submitted search at that timeRelease, no immigration case, or no other custody

Use exact identifiers and preserve the update context. If ODLS conflicts with a recent county transfer record, contact ICE and ask which office has responsibility. Do not alter the county record's meaning merely to fit the locator result. Each source reports its own custody stage.

Dade ICE Transfer Records

The county movement record is the bridge into the ICE search. For a Dade detainee housed in Cedar, request Cedar's release transaction and Dade's originating transport or authorization records. Ask each office only for fields it maintains. The request should identify the person, Dade case, booking number when known, and approximate detention dates. The Dade County directory identifies Sheriff Ryan Robison, and the official Cedar facility page identifies the detention setting.

Requested fieldPurpose
Release date and timeMarks the end of the local jail event.
Release typeShows whether the record codes a transfer or community release.
Receiving agencyConfirms whether ICE or another federal agency received the person.
Transfer destinationSupplies the next location if open and maintained.
Detainer or authority referenceConnects the movement to the recorded legal request.
Booking and Dade case identifiersPrevents same-name and cross-jurisdiction mistakes.

Phrase uncertain fields as “if maintained.” No local public data dictionary promises that Cedar keeps every item, and some destination or immigration information may be restricted. Ask for the open part and the legal basis for any withheld part. An agency need not create a new report if no compiled transfer list exists.

The Dade Sheriff release-record route identifies who held the person and where local authority sent them. Cedar's actual detention record is still required when the Stockton jail performed the release transaction.

ICE Transfer Search Contacts

The responsible contact depends on which part of the chain is being verified. Dade answers originating arrest and transport questions. Cedar answers its admission and release transaction. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations addresses a confirmed immigration transfer or locator issue. A court controls its own public order or case record.

Conditional ICE Verification Route

Dade County Sheriff: 417-238-2400 for holding-site and originating-record questions
Cedar detention: Official Cedar County site for the current records contact
ICE custody: Online Detainee Locator and relevant ERO office
State court context: Missouri Case.net, 28th Judicial Circuit

Have the full legal name, booking or case number, A-number if known, country of birth where required, and transfer date. These details should be used to match the right person and event. Do not ask a county custodian to determine federal immigration status or ask ICE to recreate a Cedar booking record.

Dade and ICE System Distinction

The Dade facility map lists ICE as a system that may become relevant after a documented detainer or transfer. It does not list an ICE jail in Dade County, and no verified Dade or Cedar contract was found. That factual limit matters. A conditional lookup path is useful without implying that routine immigration detention occurs locally.

Local criminal custody and civil immigration custody are separate. The Dade court case can explain bond, dismissal, sentence, or another state disposition. Cedar can record that its custody ended. ICE can then record civil detention. One event does not erase or prove the others.

Detainer
A request or notice asking a custodian to coordinate with immigration authorities.
Transfer
A handoff from one custodian to another, without community release.
Civil immigration detention
ICE custody under immigration authority, distinct from a criminal sentence.
Community release
The person leaves physical custody without a receiving detention agency shown for that event.

Check Other Custody Systems

A county entry may name USMS rather than ICE. Federal pretrial defendants are often held through Marshals arrangements, so the responsible USMS district and federal case docket become the proper next route. The U.S. Marshals custody guidance explains that contract local facilities are used. A BOP result applies to the federal prison system and may show a later “Released” date, but it does not substitute for a Marshals pretrial location inquiry.

A transfer to MODOC belongs in the Missouri state corrections search. A pickup by another county belongs with that county's jail records. A simple Dade or Cedar release with no successor custodian should be confirmed through the local release transaction and court authority. ODLS should not be used to fill a gap when no source points to immigration custody.

Keeping the systems separate protects accuracy. Search the named receiving agency, preserve the local release-to-agency field, and resolve unmatched results through the appropriate custodian. A roster disappearance, no-match screen, or old news item cannot replace that custody chain.

ICE Release Search Limits

ODLS is not a released-inmate archive. It is designed to locate people in qualifying ICE detention, subject to data and case limits. The system does not provide a full Dade arrest history, Cedar release log, MODOC discharge record, or national all-custody status.

Protected cases and restricted data require restraint. Ask only for the public information needed to verify the transfer and current responsible office. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, victim, and confidential information remains subject to the law that protects it. A request for a release destination does not open an entire case file.

The sound conclusion may be limited: Cedar recorded a transfer to ICE on a given event, ODLS did or did not return a match at the time checked, and further confirmation was requested from the responsible ERO office. That wording reports what each source supports without inventing a community release or a local ICE contract.
